Zahir Mosque, Kedah, Malaysia

Zahir Mosque was built in 1912 by Tunku Mahmud, son of Sultan Tajuddin Mukarram Shah. The purpose of the mosque is intended as the graves of soldiers who died while defending Kedah Kedah from Siam seizure in 1821. The architecture is inspired from the Masjid mosque in the city Azizi Langkat, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Characteristic of this mosque is the presence of five domes symbolizing the five pillars of Islam.
